About World Time Zones

The world is divided into 24 primary time zones, each roughly 15 degrees of longitude wide. UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global reference standard, with all other zones expressed as UTC offsets (e.g., IST = UTC+5:30, ET = UTC−5).

India Standard Time (IST) runs at UTC+5:30 and covers the entire country including Sri Lanka. Australian Eastern Time (AEDT) is UTC+11 during daylight saving (October–April).

USA Time Zones: Eastern (ET/UTC−5), Central (CT/UTC−6), Mountain (MT/UTC−7), Pacific (PT/UTC−8), Alaska (AKT/UTC−9), Hawaii (HT/UTC−10). During daylight saving, clocks move forward 1 hour (EDT, CDT, MDT, PDT).
